What you’ll do

Water, history, and open landscapes 🌊

This southern loop from Tirana combines river valleys, archaeological sites, Ottoman towns, and the Ionian coastline, with space for swimming, paddling, short hikes, and cultural stops. It’s less rugged than the north but rich in atmosphere and good weather, ideal for travelers who enjoy variety, slower days, and warm evenings by the sea or river.

Each destination includes the key highlights plus sustainable, adaptable stay options (wild camp · camping · guesthouse), so you’re never locked into one travel style. Restaurants are marked on the map but aren't fixed into the itinerary; you can easily add them on the road, depending on where hunger strikes.

Expect a mix of short and long days, but never more than ±4 hours on the road at once. There's enough time for hiking, swimming, adventure, resting, and spontaneous detours. The route is designed to flow; if you want to travel slower, simply add days to the places that resonate most. You'll want to stay longer than planned in this beautiful country!

The guide also includes practical tips on weather windows, road conditions, ferry timing, as well as honest advice on how to travel responsible: what to skip (tourist traps, overtourism, ...), when to go (avoiding crowds), and how to reduce your impact (slow travel, local stays, seasonal choices). Always check up-to-date weather forecasts and road conditions before heading out, especially in the mountains.
