🌊 Lækjavík Black Sand Beach

🗺️ How to Get There:
From Route 1, just some kilometers after Eystrahorn, take a small road to the right that goes down. You can park above the beach. A short walk downhill leads you to the beach but it can be tricky to get to the sand, the views from the top are also ok.

📅 Best Time of the Year to Visit:
Year-round accessible. It’s also a good stop during winter road trips, as Route 1 in the southeast often remains open.

📸 Photography Tips:

Best time of day:
Sunrise lights the sea stack and cliffs with warm tones. Blue hour gives a dramatic moody look, especially when clouds hang over the sea.

Recommended gear:

  • Wide-angle lens from the cliffs for panoramic view

  • Telephoto lens to isolate the sea stack or passing seabirds

  • Drone is allowed and ideal for capturing the shape of the beach and cliff geometry from above

Composition ideas:

  • Shoot drone images of the black beach wrapped by cliffs and rock formations

  • Frame the waves crashing against the sea stack

  • Use leading lines of waves, driftwood or cliff edges

  • Include a human element for scale among the giant coastal forms
