🌋 Víti Crater
🗺️ How to Get There:
From Route 1 near Lake Mývatn, take Road 863 (Krafla access road) and follow signs for the Krafla Power Station. Continue past the station until you reach the parking lot by Víti crater. The viewpoint is right by the lot with trails circling the crater for various angles. No 4x4 required in summer.

📅 Best Time of the Year to Visit:
Late spring to early autumn. Road access may be closed in winter due to snow.

📸 Photography Tips
Best time of day:

  • Morning light brings out crater textures

  • Midday enhances the deep turquoise color of the lake

  • Golden hour warms the surrounding volcanic earth tones

Recommended gear:

  • Wide-angle lens for full crater views

  • Polarizer to deepen the lake’s color and reduce glare

  • Drone for top-down and circular compositions

Composition ideas:

  • Frame the lake with the colorful crater rim for contrast

  • Walk part of the rim trail for leading-line shots

  • From above, capture the circular shape and surrounding lava fields for an alien feel
