⛪ Ingjaldshólskirkja Church
🗺️ How to Get There:
Located just off Road 574 near the village of Hellissandur on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. From Reykjavík, it’s about a 2.5–3 hour drive west. Turn off the main road onto a short paved path leading directly to the church, which sits on a small hill with open views in all directions. Parking is available right next to the church.
📅 Best Time of the Year to Visit:
Accessible all year. Spring and summer bring bright green fields and midnight sun light. In autumn and winter, the snow-capped Snæfellsjökull glacier and long shadows make for dramatic compositions. The area also has low light pollution, making it a potential aurora foreground.
📸 Photography Tips
Best time of day:
Golden hour or sunset from the west to get warm light on the church. In winter, early morning and late afternoon work well with long, angled light.
Recommended gear:
Wide-angle lens to capture the church with the backdrop
Telephoto for compressing the church against Snæfellsjökull glacier
Drone for aerials showing the church in the wider landscape
Composition ideas:
From the path, frame the church centered with the road leading in
Use the glacier or distant peaks as background anchors
Try capturing the church at night with aurora or stars above
