đ ĂjĂłrsĂĄ River Mouth
đșïž How to Get There:
To reach the river mouth, drive south from Route 1 along local gravel roads near the farm areas of Ărnes and ĂykkvibĂŠr. You will reach a farm called FljĂłtshĂłlar. The final stretch requires a 4x4 vehicle, as the roads become sandy and uneven. Youâll need to cross private land near the FljĂłtshĂłlar farm to access the beach, so always get permission from the landowners before proceeding. There's no marked trail, use GPS and maps to navigate until you reach the beach near the river, always follow the old tracks and never go off-road.

Best Time of the Year to Visit:
Late spring through autumn is best for access. In winter, roads may be impassable due to mud, snow, or flooding. Summer melt brings powerful flow to the delta, and the intricate river patterns are most visible from above. Avoid the area after heavy rains due to soft sand and waterlogged tracks.
đž Photography Tips:
Best time of day:
Midday to late afternoon works well for top-down shots of the braided river system. Sunrise or sunset can cast warm light on the wet sands.
Recommended gear:
Drone is essential to fully appreciate the scale and patterns. Bring extra batteries, the vastness of the area invites long flights. A polarizing filter helps with glare off the water if shooting from the ground.
Composition ideas:
Top-down drone shots show winding, layered river braids merging with the ocean. Use leading lines of water against black sand. At low tide, tidal textures create abstract scenes. Flying inland offers a full view of the deltaâs transformation from glacier to sea.
