Kodai-ji Temple is a spectacular temple in Kyoto's Higashiyama District established in 1606 in memory of the great Toyotomi Hideyoshi by his wife Nene. The main buildings are constructed with rich, lavish decoration and are surrounded by beautiful Zen gardens. One of these gardens is a dazzling rock garden, while the other is a marvelous tsukiyama-style garden containing many decorative rocks and magnificent pine and maple trees. Up on the hillside lies a mausoleum for Hideyoshi and Nene, decorated with famous Kodaiji Makie techniques involving gold and silver in lacquer. This site is sure to bring awe to any viewer, and should certainly be one everyone's must-see list.
