Bald Hills is probably my favorite day hike in all of Jasper. If on your visit you end up paddling to Fisherman's Bay or Coronet Creek, I recommend doing this hike afterward because seeing the entire lake after paddling the length of it is such an incredible feeling. The full hike is around 15km but can be made shorter. This is one of the few hikes in the national parks that does not allow dogs.

You'll need a Parks Canada pass to park here, so make sure you have that. The parking lot for this trail is the same parking lot as the put in for Maligne Lake.

I did this trail at sunset which was INCREDIBLE but I do not recommend doing it for sunset unless you are in a group as this is a very beary area. Make sure you carry bear spray and know what to do in case of a grizzly, moose, or elk encounter. When you reach the top you will be surrounded by marmots!

The trail has two options: the shortcut or the regular route. I've taken both. The shortcut is incredibly steep, rocky, and rooty. I don't recommend it on the way down unless you're very confident in your footing. I also don't recommend it for the way down if you are descending in the dark. Taking the shortcut on the way up makes for a much more difficult hike. The other route is still steep but is a longer and more gradual grade. Decide based on your ability levels.
