Nestled at the base of the magnificent Mount Assiniboine, often called the 'Matterhorn of the Rockies,' Lake Magog Backcountry Campground is your reward after a challenging journey. You can't just drive up to this spot; it's a multi-day hike of at least 25 kilometers one way, or you can opt for a scenic helicopter flight to get here. Once you arrive, you'll find yourself in a breathtaking landscape of pristine lakes, sprawling glaciers, and vibrant alpine meadows, with a network of incredible day hikes right at your doorstep.

If you're driving to the trailhead because your helicopter is flying from Mt Shark or you are starting your hike from Mt Shark TH, know that the road is gravel for 20+km and incredibly washboard. Exercise caution while driving.

This campground is the closet one to the lake and the most popular hike: The niblet, the nublet, and the nub. Check with the lodge to see what days tea time is available and bring cash to get snacks, wine, beer, and refreshments on the day it is open.
