If you are driving into Haines, you will go right past the preserve, so make sure to stop and check it out! There are information boards and a covered structure where you can hang out and get out of the gloomy Alaskan weather!
It is outside of cell service, so if you are driving out to see the eagles, make sure you are prepared!
There is a great paved walking trail and covered areas with information on the preserve.
The Alaska Bald Eagle Festival runs in November, and you can see thousands of eagles in this area! We try to make it over there every year to take photos of the eagles and enjoy a quieter version of Haines compared to the busy summer months. There are often light dustings of snow at this time of year, and the tall mountains mean it gets dark very early, making it a very cosy time to adventure! Last year, when we went, we rented a yurt overlooking the river with a hot tub! This was also when we got engaged, so this Festival will always hold a special place in my heart :)
