The Top of the World Highway is a scenic route that connects Dawson City in the Yukon to the Alaska Highway at Tetlin Junction. It's actually two highways - Yukon Highway #9 and the Taylor Highway in Alaska. The road is a mix of paved and gravel sections, offering breathtaking views and plenty of opportunities for exploration. Travellers can expect narrow roads, potholes, and some rough patches, but the journey is well worth it for the stunning vistas along the way. Don't forget your camera!
Eryn's Tips:
The Top of the World is absolutely stunning, and even if it's just for an hour or two, I'd recommend getting out and driving the road! It is very remote, has some rough patches and is outside of cell service, so come prepared!
If you want to do the entire road, you can add some amazing Alaskan locations to your list (like a town called Chicken!). Just make sure you have your passport! We did the entire loop several years ago and lucked out on amazing weather. We stayed at the Lake Creek Campground on our first night and then made it up and around to Dawson City the next day (it helps that it doesn't get dark at night!) The views are never-ending, and you truly feel like you're on top of the world!
