Description:
Grótta Lighthouse is located on a small tidal island at the tip of the Seltjarnarnes Peninsula, just a short drive from downtown Reykjavík. It’s one of the best places near the capital to watch sunsets and the Northern Lights in winter, thanks to its dark skies and ocean views. The area is peaceful, with walking paths, birdlife, and panoramic views of Faxaflói Bay. At low tide, you can walk out to the lighthouse, but access is restricted during bird nesting season (May to July). Many locals come here to relax, enjoy the view, or soak their feet in the small hot footbath nearby.

Price:
Visiting Grótta Lighthouse is free, including parking and walking paths. Northern Lights tours that stop at Grótta typically cost around $70–100 USD per person, but it’s also easy to visit on your own if you have a car.
