Aeschi bei Spiez is a picturesque municipality in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. It has an area of 30.99 km2 and, as of December 2020, a population of 2,256 people. Built on a ridge between Lake Thun and the Kander Valley, its delightful village of Aeschiried offers plenty for visitors to explore, including its Romanesque parish church of St. Peter, built around 1228.

There are plenty of hiking trails to explore in this area but there is one specific hike I would like to share with you and that is Aeschi Rundweg.

The hike starts at Aeschi bei Spiez Post. The distance of the hike is 6 km with 200 meters of elevation gains.

On the way Niesen peak will follow you along with Lake Thun. There are plenty of benches along the way to rest and take on the view.

Tip1: start early before sunrise that is normally around 8 am in winter. Often times there will be a sea of clouds covering lake Thun which is a very spectacular sight.

Tip2: don't forget to visit the lama farm on the way.
