Keiss Castle might just be one of our favourite castles to photograph. It’s a must stop on the NC500 and well worth the slight detour! The castle is a stirring relic of a bygone era, perched atop cliffs overlooking Sinclair's Bay in Scotland.

We often park at Keiss harbour and walk along the headland to get there. You'll get some different vantage points of the castle, including from down on the beach. Seals love this area too!

Some history:

Built possibly on the site of an earlier fort in the late 16th or early 17th century by George Sinclair, 5th Earl of Caithness, it stands as testament to the strength of the family's history - a slender tower of four exceptionally tall storeys with tall chimneystacks looming above. The castle came close to ruin when the 7th Earl died there, but was replaced by Keiss House around 1755. A Category B listed Baronial Mansion, Keiss House underwent numerous alterations and additions over the centuries that shaped it into its current form.
