The Hike
Distance: 16km - Duration: 4h - Altitude: 700m
Description
This hike is one of the highlights of the Millstätter Alps and follows part of the famous "Weg der Liebe" (Path of Love). Starting at Schwaigerhütte, the trail gradually climbs through alpine meadows and gentle mountain landscapes towards Millstätter Hütte. Along the way, stunning views of Lake Millstätter See and the surrounding mountains begin to unfold, providing plenty of reasons to stop and admire the scenery.
From the hut, the trail continues over the Kamplnock and past the Obermillstätter Almkreuz, offering panoramic views in every direction. The rolling peaks of the Nockberge, the deep blue lake below and the peaceful alpine surroundings make this route a true pleasure to hike.
The highlight of the tour awaits at the Granattor, one of Carinthia's most iconic viewpoints. Framed by giant garnet stones, the gate perfectly captures the breathtaking view over Lake Millstätter See and symbolizes the connection between nature love, and the region's rich garnet heritage.
With several mountain huts along the route serving traditional Carinthian specialties, this hike combines spectacular scenery, rewarding viewpoints and authentic alpine hospitality, making it one of the most memorable day hikes in southern Austria.
