Nanny’s Rock – Hidden Caves & Sandstone Magic
If you’re into secret caves, red sandstone cliffs, beautiful views and a bit of local mystery, Nanny’s Rock on Kinver Edge is your kind of adventure.
🏚 What is it?
A series of cave dwellings carved into the rock, once home to who-knows-who (probably someone way tougher than us). Previously known as ‘Meg-o-Fox-Hole’ which sounds like a pirate’s hideout, it’s now just a cool place to explore and pretend you’ve discovered something ancient
🥾 Getting There
It can be a bit tricky to find but there is a purple route signposted that takes you directly beneath it, and it's worth every step once you stumble across it. Expect a steep walk and some uneven ground, so not the smoothest journey for pushchairs, but doable if you’re feeling brave
🚗 Where to Park?
Park on Compton Road, near the restored National Trust Rock Houses, they’re the ones that have been actually set up like homes
☕ Facilities?
Café & Toilets at the restored rock houses.
Nothing at Nanny’s Rock itself so bring snacks, water, and possibly a sense of direction
📍 Why Go?
Because it’s like stepping into a fantasy novel. Think ancient cave homes, hidden history, and a solid excuse to stretch your legs. Perfect for explorers, history lovers, and kids who like to climb on things they probably shouldn’t.
