The Zervreilasee is an emerald blue reservoir tucked snugly in the picturesque canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. Located near the attractive village of Vals, at an elevation of 1,862 meters, the lake boasts a surface area of 1.61 km² and a maximum depth of 140 m. Its banks are surrounded by the majestic Adula Alps mountain range, featuring gorgeous snow-capped peaks and a stunning backdrop of its own.

HIKE DETAILS:

Start : Vals. I did this hike in winter, therefore the cable car up to Gadastatt was free. From here you follow the pink winter trail sign, towards the lake Zervreilasee.

5km and 280 meter elevation gain later you arrive to the lake. It is insanely beautiful with all the snow capped mountains.

Fun fact: you can find the brother of Matterhorn here called Zervreilahorn. The Zervreilahorn is 2898 meter tall and from some angle it really looks like a smaller brother of Matterhorn.

You can continue your hike down to the dam, and cross it. You can find a small restaurant here called Restaurant Zervreila. Enjoy some refreshment and lunch before you finish the hike. From the restaurant you can take the shuttle bus back to Vale or hike through the forest on the paved road. That's exactly what I did.

The entire trip was 15 km long with 296 meter elevation gain and it took me 3 hours.
