Highland Folk Museum, just outside Newtonmore, is a large open-air museum where recreated Highland buildings, costumed interpreters and hands-on displays bring traditional Highland life alive. The site is mainly outdoors on uneven paths, so bring sturdy shoes and waterproof layers and plan to spend 2 to 3 hours; the main visitor centre, café and toilets are generally accessible but some historic buildings are not. The museum is seasonal, typically open spring to autumn with limited winter access, and you can usually buy tickets online or on arrival, so check the museum website for exact dates and any special events. There is on-site parking and a small café and shop; dogs are normally welcome in outdoor areas on a lead but are not allowed inside buildings.
