A crowd favourite and for good reason. This walk is unreal. It’s about 6km return with 400m of elevation, and honestly, it’s one of those hikes that makes you stop and say “no way is this real.” The track starts off mellow with a swing bridge and a powerful waterfall viewpoint, then heads into proper beech forest magic.
It does get a bit scrambly in parts, expect slippery rocks, wet roots, and a decent bit of mud. This whole area gets heaps of rain, so the track’s often damp and a little rough underfoot. But once you reach Lake Marian, tucked into a hanging valley with snow-capped peaks all around, it’s next level. The water is this crazy emerald colour and looks completely untouched. If you're game, bring your togs, the glacial swim is freezing but definitely one to remember.
