You can't beat a hike with a view in our opinion, unless it's a hike with a view and wild ponies... For this reason, if you're in the area, no matter the time of year, a hike up to Hergest Ridge is not to be missed.

Straddling the border of England and Wales, from the ridge you can enjoy 360 views of the Black Mountains and sometimes even as far as the Malvern Hills.

Depending on your appetite and ability, this walk can be done as part of the much longer, several day Offa's Dyke trail or as a standalone hike starting from either Kington town or Ridgebourne Road car park across from Hergest Croft Garden - the latter being the shortest option. We chose the short option as we had a 2 year old with us and it gave us more time to explore the ridge and take in the views whilst enjoying a picnic surrounded by nature and wild ponies.

Top Tip: Head to Kington pre hike to pick up picnic supplies from the local deli and grocers.
