Gîte La Cascade chez Mme Nativel is one of the most heartfelt, family-run gîtes in Grand Bassin — ideal if you’re hiking in and want warm hospitality, real Creole cooking, and local knowledge. Located in the tiny, roadless village at the bottom of the descent from Belvédère de Bois Court, the gîte offers simple comforts and a chance to slow all the way down.
What to expect:
Basic but clean rooms or dorms, with hot showers and good mattresses
Homemade Creole dinner and breakfast — often using garden produce and served family-style
Peaceful mountain setting near the village’s famous Cascade Grand Bassin
Packed lunch available on request for the hike back up
No internet, no noise, just nature and warm, genuine hospitality
Getting here means hiking: approx. 2 hours down and 3–4 hours back up, with around 850 m elevation gain. The path is well-maintained but steep. This is for hikers only — no roads reach the village.
👉 Local tip: Mme Nativel’s lentils and cari poulet are consistently praised. Let her know in advance if you’re vegetarian — she’s happy to adapt.
