🌳 Lonely Tree in Small Island with Water Reflection

🗺️ How to Get There:
Follow Road 848, the eastern ring road around Lake Mývatn. The tree sits just off the road, on a tiny island in a still pond, perfectly visible as you drive past.
There’s no designated parking, but you can stop briefly at a gravel pullout nearby and walk a few steps to the water’s edge for photos. The location is ideal in calm weather, as even light wind disturbs the mirror-like surface.

📅 Best Time of the Year to Visit:
All seasons offer a distinct mood:

  • Winter: Tree without leaves, dark silhouette, perfect for northern light reflections

  • Spring/Summer: Vibrant green foliage with warm light and long days

  • Autumn: Golden-orange colors mirrored in the water
Best conditions are during early morning or after rain when the air is still and the surface flat.

📸 Photography Tips

Best time of day:

  • Golden hour or twilight for warm tones and symmetry

  • Night in winter for aurora above the tree

  • Avoid windy or bright midday conditions

Recommended gear:

  • Tripod for long exposure and night shots

  • Telephoto lens (70–200mm) to isolate the tree and its reflection

  • Wide-angle for environmental framing and aurora shots

Composition ideas:

  • Go low to capture full top-down reflection

  • Center the tree for symmetry, or offset it for minimalist balance

  • In winter, silhouette the bare tree with aurora or moonlight

  • Try vertical orientation to show tree + sky + reflection stacked
