Wild Horses: We don't recommend feeding the wild horses as they can become territorial and aggressive with each other when there's food around.
Weather: It's common for clouds to roll in from the back of the valley in the afternoon, so the earlier you arrive the better. We love arriving around 9 am.
Pack a day bag: Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, flip flops, swimsuit, towel, bug spray, umbrella for unexpected rain or sun protection, and a light jacket/windbreaker if the weather changes.
What to wear: Comfortable walking/hiking shoes.
What to bring: Plenty of water and snacks or pick up lunch to go, as there are few places to stop.
Phone Service: There's little to no phone service during the drive once you pass Waimea, and especially once you arrive.
Bathrooms: Bathrooms available at the view point.
Parking: Limited parking spots. Make sure to hide your valuables and lock you car.
Check in booth: Check in with the booth before attempting to drive down to the valley with a local Hawaii ID.
Photography: Cameras are allowed for non-commercial work, otherwise you'll ned a permit from the Hawaii Film Office: https://filmoffice.hawaii.gov/locations/
Drones: Drones are not permitted as daily helicopter tours fly over the valley.
Accessible for Disability: There's a steep paved walking path from the parking lot to the viewpoint.
