Directions

Year-round horse riding tours out of the area of scenic Grenivík on the east shore of Eyjafjörður fjord, about 20min drive from Akureyri.

Pólar Hestar runs guided Icelandic horse rides in North Iceland that are very much about the experience on the unique, sure-footed Icelandic pony, so expect guided small groups and a focus on the tölt gait rather than high-speed riding. You can usually join as a beginner but tell them your experience when booking because there are rides from about an hour up to longer treks and different difficulty levels. Wear warm, windproof and waterproof layers plus sturdy boots; helmets are generally provided but confirm ahead if you want one of your own. Book in advance, arrive on time for the safety briefing and saddle-up, and be prepared for changing weather and standard weight/waiver policies.
