Hvítserkur, also known as the Troll of Northwest Iceland, is a 15-meter tall basalt rock stack that sticks out from Húnaflói Bay. Amazing spot for photographers. Especially if you can get very close and play with reflections and different compositions. However it depends if there's low/high tide at the time of your visit so plan accordingly.
🅿️ Parking : Paid (1.100 isk via Parka)
when visited in May 2026 there were signs about paid parking, but no cameras. You don't really have to pay unless cameras are in place ;)
🚗 Road: Gravel (rough but doable with with 2wd except for the last hill leading down to the site. Park at the top and walk down - 10min walk)
TIP: Google maps will likely tell you to take road 711 but I found that taking 716 and then connecting to 711 is better, as it shortens your time on the gravel road and therefore makes the drive a bit faster and more comfortable (at least in the summer)
🚶Distance: 250m/850 ft to the viewing platform
⚠️ Note: You can walk down to the beach you can either do that by following the path straight down from the viewing platform (very steep and loose) or take the right path from the parking lot, which is a bit longer but less steep
❄️ Winter: Usually accessible, but the road can easily get closed or difficult to drive with 2wd
