Hverfjall in northern Iceland is a 400m tall volcanic crater that was formed by a volcanic eruption around 25,000 years ago. You can hike to the top for epic views of the surrounding area, and trust me, it's totally worth it.

🚗 Road: Gravel
🅿️ Parking: 1.000 isk (Parka)

🚶Distance: 0.6km/0.4mi to the top of the crater

❄️ Winter: The road can close/become impassable in the winter

📝 Notes : Bathrooms on site

🥾 Hiking: You can also hike around the crater if you have time (4.5 km/2.8mi roundtrip). Loose surface on the short climb but the hike along the rim is easy.

🚁 Drones: Many locations around Mývatn are protected or locally sensitive. Mývatn is a red-light location for recreational drone use under the current Nature Conservation Agency rules, but you may be able to get a verbal permission from a ranger (info centre) during winter/shoulder season months.

🍿 Watch my Guide to Mývatn on YouTube.
