Area full of interesting rock and lava formations and nice views. Also a great place for bird watching. There're two free parking lots.

One providing you with some nice views straight after parking the car and the second one will lead you to the forested peninsula where you'll find couple of short routes that will take you to more interesting rock formations and hidden lagoons.

💡 Tip: If you're short on time - When you enter the forest from the second parking lot and walk through the gate, take the first turn right. That will take you up to the little view point from where you can perfectly see the entire lake. (as you can see on one of the photos)

🚗 Road: Paved
🅿️ Parking: Free

🚶Distance: 0-1km/0-0.6mi

❄️ Winter: Accessible, but walking to the peninsula from the second parking lot can be difficult if there's too much snow

🚁 Drones: Many locations around Mývatn are protected or locally sensitive. Mývatn is a red-light location for recreational drone use under the current Nature Conservation Agency rules, but you may be able to get a verbal permission from a ranger (info centre) during winter/shoulder season months.
