Víti (which translates to hell) is a geothermal lake in Askja kaldera. next to the bigger lake Öskjuvatn.

🚗 Road: F-road .You can take road F905 (easier with mid-sized vehicle) or road F88 (one bigger river crossings) .
🅿️ Parking: Free

🚶Distance: It takes about 20-30min to reach Víti from the parking lot. 5km/3mi roundtrip.

❄️ Winter: Not accessible. Road closes with first snow.

📝 Notes : Last time I was there few years ago it was possible to take a dip in the lake. Fun experience but the temperature is lukewarm and there're sharp lava rocks covering the bottom and you don't know where you're stepping, so it felt very sketchy. As of now, I'm not sure if bathing there is still allowed.
