Hidden in a mountain near Konjic is ARK D-0, the secret nuclear bunker built for Yugoslav Revolutionary Josip Tito. Construction began in 1953 and finished in 1979; costing $4.6 billion USD and taking many workers' lives. ARK D-0 was designed to be able to sustain up to 350 people for six months during a nuclear attack and remain undetected. It remains today much as it was during Tito's days including furniture and equipment that was kept intact by Bosnian forces refusing to carry out orders from Belgrade in 1992. In addition, the bunker now hosts a contemporary art exhibition in the soldier's sleeping quarters.
