Secret Cove is one of the most picturesque hidden beaches along the eastern shore of Lake Tahoe. Reached by a short walk from the highway, the secluded cove is known for its crystal-clear turquoise water, smooth granite boulders, and small sandy beach tucked between the rocky shoreline. While the hike is brief, the trail can be uneven in places, adding to the feeling that you’ve stumbled upon one of Tahoe’s best-kept secrets. It’s a popular spot for swimming, paddleboarding, photography, and simply relaxing beside some of the clearest water in the Sierra Nevada.

Secret Cove is part of a stretch of shoreline that includes several small coves and beaches, each framed by polished granite and remarkably transparent water. Mornings are typically the calmest time to visit, when the lake often resembles glass and the crowds are lighter. Parking is roadside, limited and fills quickly during the summer, so arriving early is highly recommended.

Visitors should also be aware that Secret Cove has long been known as a clothing-optional beach, though many people visit simply to enjoy the scenery and access to one of Lake Tahoe’s most beautiful shorelines. That being said, during our visit, there were a number of people enjoying the freedom of the clothing-optional settings. So we'd recommend leaving the kids behind. The nearby Chimney, Secret Harbor and Whale Beaches would be better suited for family outings.
