Perched on a dramatic bluff overlooking the Pacific, Kirk Creek is where you come for some of the most spectacular coastal views in Big Sur. Many of the sites here face the ocean, offering an unparalleled spot to watch the sunset or even spot migrating whales in the winter. There's a path that winds down to a secluded rocky beach (see Kirk Creek Trail on our map), and right across the highway, you can jump on the Vicente Flats Trail for a beautiful hike into the Ventana Wilderness. Just be sure to come prepared, as there's no running water or dump, but the million-dollar views more than make up for the rustic facilities.

Preferred sites: If you're looking for unobstructed views of the ocean you'll want 26, 27, 28, 33. Most of the other sites have shrubbery and plants that block your view of the ocean. If you're in a camper van or RV, also look at sites 15 and 17 in addition to 26, 27, 28, 33 for a nice flat grade. Most other sites are on a heavy slant.

Pet-friendly: Yes, but must be leashed, well-behaved and picked up after

Bathroom: Yes

Dump Station: No

Potable Water: No

Showers: No

Wifi/cell service: There was no wifi or cell service during our visit, so plan accordingly
