Cinder Cone Trail located in the beautiful Lassen Volcanic National Park in Northern California is a great trail for those looking for an intense adventure with incredible views. Taking an average of 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the 4.7-mile loop, explorers will continuously gain in elevation (1,000ft/300m) until reaching the top of the cinder cone. There, hikers can be rewarded with incredible panoramic views of nearby lakes, mountains, and the stunning painted dunes. The hike is definitely challenging, but that’s what makes it so unique and fun! Winding through lava gravel and pines trees, your courage and determination will pay off at the summit.

Pet-friendly: No, pets are not permitted.

Soft adventure: DEFINITELY NOT

Seasonality: Spring-Fall

Fee: $30 per vehicle park entry fee
