Convict Lake is one of the Eastern Sierra’s most striking alpine lakes, known for its glassy turquoise water framed by rugged granite peaks that glow gold at sunrise and sunset. Just a short drive from Mammoth Lakes, it’s an easily accessible yet incredibly scenic spot for a stroll, picnic, or paddle. The Convict Lake Loop Trail is a 2.5-mile loop that circles the shoreline, offering a mix of boardwalks, dirt paths, and gentle elevation—perfect for an easy hike with unbeatable views. Along the way, you’ll pass through groves of aspens (especially stunning in fall), cross over clear creeks, and find plenty of quiet spots to stop and take it all in. Dogs are welcome on leash, making it a great outing for both people and pups.
