The Granite Lake to Maggie's Peak trail, is a strenuous but enjoyable 4-mile out-and-back route located near South Lake Tahoe, California. Generally considered to be moderately challenging, it takes an average of 2-2.5 hours to complete. This popular trail features stunning landscapes, with glorious views of Emerald Bay State Park, Cascade Lake, and Lake Tahoe from various vantage points throughout the route. With rock steps, several elevation gains, and some pretty large boulders, it can provide a nice challenge for those looking for a bit of an extra thrill. Additionally, this trail boasts pools at the top with many opportunities to cool off or relax from a day's journey. The best times to visit this trail are May through October, though due to its popularity, visitors should arrive early as the parking lot tends to fill up quickly.

Pet-friendly: Yes, on leash, but this is bear country. And please pack out their trash.

Soft adventure: Definitely not

Seasonality: Summer (the trail is accessible in the winter, but there may be winter road closures leading to alternate routes

Fees: None
