Just a short walk from downtown, Bow Falls is one of the most accessible waterfalls in the Rockies — and while it’s not super tall, it’s wide, powerful, and definitely worth a stop.
Located right below the Fairmont Banff Springs, you can get there in just a few minutes from town or combine it with a visit to Surprise Corner.
There’s a parking lot right nearby, and from there it’s just a short, paved walk to the main viewpoint where you can feel the force of the Bow River rushing over the falls. If you want to stretch it out a bit, you can follow the Bow River Trail (~1.2 km one way), which runs along the water and connects different viewpoints along the river.
This spot is great year-round — in summer, the water is fast and powerful from glacier melt, while in winter, parts of the falls freeze over, creating a completely different look. It’s also a popular place for photos, especially early morning or evening when it’s quieter.
It’s not a hidden gem, but it’s quick, easy, and one of those classic Banff stops that fits perfectly into a day of exploring without needing much time.
