Látrabjarg is one of the best stops in the Westfjords, especially if seeing puffins is on your list! During nesting season, puffins gather here in huge numbers and often stand right along the cliff edges, which makes this one of the easiest places to see them up close.
You don’t need a 4×4 to get to Látrabjarg, but we’d still recommend one if you have it. Road 612 out here is gravel and can be rough in places, with some large potholes, so it’s a slower drive in a regular car. (We heard the road is planned to be improved, with work expected to be finished by August 2026, just in time for the solar eclipse!)
Once you’re there, just stick to the paths, keep a safe distance from the cliff edges, and respect the birds.
