Stokksnes was easily one of our top three favorite spots in all of Iceland. It’s starting to get more popular, but we’d still consider it a gem, especially compared to how crowded Iceland's other black sand beaches can be. When we went almost no one was there, we went in the early morning, so for the same experience try going earlier in the day!

The area is best known for the beautiful Vestrahorn mountains and black sand dunes. Stokksnes is absolutely worth a stop!

You have to pay a small fee at the Viking Cafe to enter the Vestrahorn area.

To get here there is a gravel road, but you should be fine in a 2WD in summer. Just make sure to check weather conditions beforehand!
