Fagrifoss is an impressive waterfall located deep in the Icelandic Highlands along F-Road F206 on the way to the Lakagígar craters. Reaching it requires a 4WD vehicle approved for F-roads and patience on slow gravel roads, as the waterfall sits far from the Ring Road in a remote part of the Highlands.
The drive includes several river crossings, including a larger crossing of the Geirlandsá River that can be very difficult depending on water levels. (use https://umferdin.is/en to check current road conditions). If you are not comfortable crossing it, you can park before the river and walk the final half-mile to the waterfall. Once across, the walk to the viewing area is short and easy.
Because of its remote location, Fagrifoss is often quiet and far less visited than many waterfalls in Iceland. It’s commonly visited on the way to the Laki craters, but it can also be a rewarding destination on its own for travelers willing to venture deep into the Highlands.
To find the parking lot, you can type "Fagrifoss Parking with Toilet" into Google Maps :)
