Vík Camping is the small village site that puts you within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and the famous black-sand beach, so it works well as a practical base for Reynisfjara and Dyrhólaey. Expect basic, clean facilities, toilets, showers and a dishwashing area, but services are reduced in winter and hookups are limited, so if you need electricity or waste disposal plan ahead. The site is very exposed and windy, so bring heavy-duty pegs and secure loose items. Arrive early or book in high season if you want a preferred pitch.
We showed up late the night we stayed here and we were able to get a spot, but it was very full! (We went in mid-July.) If you want to stay in one of the cabins on-site, you will definitely need to book ahead. Our favorite part about this site was the views and close proximity to supermarkets and things to do.
