Waterfall

Goðafoss is one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls and an easy, worthwhile stop in North Iceland, right off the Ring Road. There is no entrance fee, and you can park on either side of the river, with short, well-maintained walking paths to multiple viewpoints.

The waterfall itself is very wide, with a curved shape that makes it impressive from almost every angle. It’s also historically significant, according to legend, Iceland’s pagan idols were thrown into the falls when the country converted to Christianity, which is how Goðafoss got its name (“Waterfall of the Gods”).

This is a very popular and touristy stop, especially midday when tour buses arrive, so visiting early in the morning or later in the evening makes a big difference if you want fewer people.

You're even able to walk down to the river and onto the rocks. Please be careful because some rocks are wobbly and the current is VERY strong!
