The Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon Zodiac Tour is a guided boat tour that takes you out onto the lagoon in a small, fast zodiac boat, allowing you to get much closer to the icebergs than you can from shore. It’s the most immersive way to experience Jökulsárlón, especially if you want to see the size, textures, and deep blue colors of the ice up close.

Tours run during the warmer months and depart directly from the lagoon (the location pinned is where most tours start, but make sure to check the address your tour operator provides you). You’ll be provided with safety gear before heading out, and a guide shares information about the glacier, ice formations, and how the lagoon is constantly changing. The ride itself is relatively short but an incredible experience, and conditions on the lagoon can vary depending on weather and ice movement.

You can still enjoy Jökulsárlón without a tour, but if you’re already stopping at the lagoon and want a more hands-on experience, it’s a great upgrade. Booking in advance is highly recommended during peak season, as spots can sell out very quickly.

There are multiple different tour operators for zodiac/boat tours of the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. If you're traveling with kids, make sure to double check the age limit becuase each is different (the lowest minimum age I saw was 8 years old!)
