We tried to wilderness camp as much as we could on this trip, but every once in a while you just need a reset, charge everything up, empty waste, take a proper shower.

This spot near Lake Pukaki was perfect for that, especially being so close to Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park. It has a ton of space, really easy setup, and the views are still so good, you’re right by that unreal blue lake with the mountains in the distance.

I’ll always prefer freedom camping when I can, but this is such a great option to mix in when you need a break from it. It just makes everything feel a little easier before heading back out.
