Nagamachi is a fascinating neighborhood in Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture that has maintained its historical atmosphere. It was once the home of some of the most powerful samurai in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1867). Take a walk back in time while wandering through its narrow atmospheric streets and visiting its preserved bukeyashiki houses, traditional residences of the samurai. Visitors can also marvel at the Nomura house, a prototypical samurai mansion, take in its beautiful inner garden, and learn about samurai life in museums like the Shinise Kinenkan Museum. There are also many shops, restaurants, and a craft museum filled with pieces of Kanazawa's culture to explore. With its rich cultural heritage, Nagamachi provides travelers with an incredible glimpse into the past of this unique region.
