Aberystwyth Cliff Railway

A must-see landmark since 1896, the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway takes you from the northern end of the promenade up Constitution Hill, offering spectacular views over Aberystwyth, Cardigan Bay, and on a clear day, 26 Welsh mountain peaks.

  • Parking: North Road Car Park – 3 North Rd, Aberystwyth SY23 2HS (Pay & Display)

  • Experience: Ride Britain’s longest electric funicular cliff railway to the summit (return fare £8.50–£9 per adult). At the top, enjoy the Camera Obscura, wide-open spaces, a café with home-made snacks, and outdoor play areas. Dogs are welcome.

  • Accessibility: Fully refurbished with wheelchair-friendly trains and pathways, a passenger lift to the summit, and improved shelter from the elements.

  • Opening Times: Trains run 10:00–17:00, daily from April to October (often extended to 18:00 in high season). Out of season, check locally.

  • Facilities: Café open 10:00–17:00, Camera Obscura 11:00–17:00, indoor/outdoor games 10:00–16:30.

No advance booking is required. The short ride and spectacular summit views make it an easy and rewarding stop for families, couples, or anyone who wants a relaxing break with panoramic vistas.
