Streymoy is the largest island in the Faroe Islands and where a lot of trips naturally begin. It’s home to Tórshavn (the world’s smallest capital), plus tons of tiny, turf-roofed villages tucked into dramatic green valleys.

You can spend a day hiking along cliffside paths with sweeping ocean views, take a boat tour to the Vestmanna bird cliffs to spot puffins and other seabirds, or explore Kirkjubøur, the island’s historic village with some of the oldest sites in the Faroes.

If you’re short on time, this is one of the best islands to base yourself on since so many highlights are close by.
