Monté Bre is one of the classic daytrip to do when in Lugano to enjoy the beautiful outdoors and the panorama views over Lake Maggiore!

To come here, you will take two funicular trains ascending the mountain. Take a short walk and you will soon reach the vantage point for breath-taking views. There is also a nice terrace restaurant where yo u can sit and enjoy a beer or apero spritz while admiring the sceneries. Kids will also be thrilled to find a fun playground slightly further down below.

For those inclined to hike, numerous trails commence from this location, including the well-known path leading down to Gandria, where a boat ride back to Lugano is an option.

Directions:

Board a train to the central Lugano train station (Lugano, Stazione), and subsequently, hop on Bus 2 heading to the Cassarate, Monte Brè bus stop, approximately an 11-minute journey. From the bus stop, a brief stroll will lead you to the Section 1 funicular, depicted below. The bus operates at intervals of approximately 15 minutes.
