One of Madeira’s most beautiful ocean walks is finally open again!

Looking for an easy, unforgettable stroll right by the Atlantic? This one’s a local favourite – and after over a year of closure, the full promenade from Praia Formosa to Câmara de Lobos is now officially open!

🌊 Why we love it:
This path hugs the coastline the entire way, offering salty air, crashing waves, dramatic cliffs, and a view that’s peak Madeira. No steep climbs. No car noise. Just you and the sea.

🚶‍♀️ Where to start:
Begin at Doca do Cavacas, walk through the scenic tunnel carved into the rocks, and follow the path west. Every few metres is a new photo spot.

🍹 Your reward:
End in Câmara de Lobos, the colourful fishing village that once inspired Churchill’s paintings. Sit down at a local bar and toast your walk with a Poncha (traditional rum drink) or Nikita (Madeiran beer float with ice cream and pineapple). You’ve earned it.

Until 6 July, the streets of Câmara de Lobos are bursting with colour thanks to the Urban Art Project — a unique summer tradition where locals decorate the town using only recycled materials. It's creative, vibrant, and one more reason to fall in love with this place.
