Cascade Niagara is one of La Réunion’s most dramatic and accessible waterfalls — but getting there feels like its own little adventure.

Tucked behind the sugarcane fields of Sainte-Suzanne, the route takes you down a narrow, winding road barely wider than your car, flanked by towering green cane. At one point, the road almost disappears into a pond — hidden by overgrowth, it takes quick reflexes (or a local’s tip) to avoid a surprise detour into the water.

But the moment you arrive, the effort pays off.

The waterfall drops nearly 55 meters (180 feet) into a wide, clear basin surrounded by volcanic rock and tropical foliage. When the flow is strong, you’ll feel the mist on your skin from meters away. It’s a popular spot for swimming, picnicking, and cooling off — and thanks to easy access, it's family-friendly too.

👉 Pro Tip: Bring water shoes if you plan to wade or swim — the rocks are slippery. Morning visits offer the softest light and the fewest crowds.
👉 Hidden Gem: Follow the trail slightly to the right of the main path for a side-angle view that’s perfect for photos.
⚠️ Caution: water flow varies with season — sometimes dry in summer. Most dramatic after rains (April–November)
