We visited White Scar Cave in August 2025, and it’s every bit as impressive as its reputation suggests. Hidden beneath the rugged beauty of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this is Britain’s longest show cave — over six miles of passages shaped by water and time. The moment you step inside, the temperature drops, the air turns damp and mysterious, and you’re surrounded by towering limestone walls, fragile stalactites, fossils frozen in rock, and even an underground waterfall. The steady roar of the water echoing through the cavern makes the experience unforgettable.

Visits are only possible via a guided tour — you’re not allowed to explore on your own. The tours last around 80–100 minutes and take you deep into the cave system. We loved how the guide combined geological insights with storytelling about the cave’s discovery, striking the perfect balance between education and adventure. It kept both adults and kids fully engaged the whole time.

Tickets & Practical Info:

  • Adults: £19 / Children (3–15): £14 (under 3s go free)

  • Family tickets are available and good value if you’re visiting with kids.

  • You can book online in advance, but we just turned up on the day and joined the next tour with no issue.

  • Open most of the year (weather permitting).

Parking: There is a good size free dedicated on-site car park right next to the visitor centre for cave visitors. Spaces can fill up in summer, so aim to arrive early if you’re visiting during peak season.

Why we recommend it:
This is more than just a cave — it’s a journey into a hidden world beneath the Dales. It’s slightly on the pricier side, but the sheer scale of the passages, the unique formations, and the underground waterfall make it worth every penny. It’s one of those rare experiences that’s educational, adventurous, and magical all at once. A must-do if you’re in the Yorkshire Dales, whether you’re travelling as a couple, with friends, or with kids.
