This walk is a must in our opinion.
It’s easy enough for most people, especially for those who aren’t doing the summit. It’s an easy 6km (2-3 hrs) circuit around Dove Lake, offering some of the best views of the iconic mountain.
Lots of people do it for sunset, too, it’s absolutely stunning!
WHAT TO EXPECT
6km circuit, allow 2-3 hours
Flat, well-maintained track with boardwalk sections
Big views of Cradle Mountain across the lake
Lots of wildlife around, especially near sunset
Bring a waterproof jacket, weather changes fast
Wear good shoes, it can get muddy even on short hikes
Bring water and snacks, no facilities on the trail
TO ACCESS
Requires Parks Pass (more info on which one to pick further down)
Shuttle bus access from 8am–5pm, timetable slightly changes depending on the season, more info here
You can drive yourself there outside of shuttle bus hours (motorhomes never allowed)
About which Park Pass to choose:
We recommend the Holiday Pass, it’s the best value for money if you’re visiting other national parks in Tassie.
It includes entry to Cradle Mt but doesn’t include the shuttle bus. At the time of writing the bus costs $15 per person, and is valid for 72 hours.
The Icon Daily Pass is the other option. It’s pricier but best if you’re spending 1 day in Cradle Mt and you’re not visiting other parks in Tasmania.
