Mount Wellington is an epic spot for the best views over Hobart. There are heaps of little walking tracks, waterfalls, and hidden nooks all over the mountain too, so it’s worth taking your time exploring.

We’ve been up there in different seasons and every visit has felt completely different. Once it even snowed on us in September!

It’s an easy half-day trip from Hobart and a great way to start or end your time in the city. The views alone make it worth the drive.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Huge views over Hobart and the river from multiple lookouts

  • Very quick weather changes so it can be COLD at the summit

  • Short walks, waterfalls, and little hidden tracks if you want to explore

  • A small cafe on the way up for a warm drink

  • Sunrise and sunset are beautiful if the clouds behave

  • Dog-friendly in most areas. More info here.

TO ACCESS

  • Free entry

  • About 20 minutes from central Hobart

  • You can drive all the way to the top on a sealed road

  • Best to check conditions before heading up as the summit sometimes closes due to weather
